There is much to think about before you plan a fundraising event. You may have lots of ideas, but to help you choose the best event for you it would be useful to have a think about your hobbies, your contacts and circle of friends, and your school, college or work environment. All these things will help you when it comes to organising and promoting your event. You also need to consider how much time you are prepared to give. The easiest event to organise will be one that links to your existing lifestyle. For example, if you are a hairdresser, why not do a sponsored haircut? When deciding on the right event, you need to consider the following:
1. Who and how many will it appeal to?
2. How much of your time will it take to organize? Remember, if you are a very busy person, limited for time and/or resources, then something as simple as a collection jar in an obvious but secure place can still raise a good bit of money!
3. Who could help you to organize it? You don't have to go solo! Think about who you could get to help you. Family, friends, workmates and neighbours could help you with planning and preparations, or by helping you on the day.
4. What resources will you need, e.g. posters, flyers, tickets, refreshments, etc?
5. Will it be cost effective? Will there still be a good amount raised after costs have been paid?
Here are a few more tasks for you to ensure the success of your event:
1. Generate publicity – this not only attracts people to your event, but provides credibility. Local press could also be contacted after the event in order to thank your donors. Put posters up around your school, college, workplace, church, local shop or supermarket, library, etc. You can also advertise your event via word of mouth, email, text or personal invite.
2. Make it fun and interesting for yourself and those who attend!
3. Ensure you make it clear where the money is going to. Fields of Life will provide posters, pop-up banners, letter of authentication, information leaflets, brochures, DVDs, and collection buckets/tins if necessary. Contact us at info@fieldsoflife.com or on 028 3839 0395 if you require any assistance. We would be more than happy to help.
4. Set yourself a target and make sure everyone knows how much you are trying to raise!
