Every day, as you negotiate the struggles and complexities of your life and go through your daily routine, you see ads or pictures of African children in need. It is sad, and you may have paused for a moment to shake your head. But there are other times where there is no connection, for we have all become somewhat anesthetised due to the familiarity of the images.
There are unguarded moments when the impact of a pair of eyes or a particular smile catches you and you feel moved; for a moment, you think, I’d like to do something about that. But the moment passes as reality sets in - you don’t have the time. But the truth of the matter is that YOU DO.
No one is asking you to move to Africa; an organisation such as Fields of Life appreciates even the smallest gesture or contribution. And no, it isn’t simply about money. That’s just one option. Charities would not survive if they were expected to conduct their affairs on a cash-only basis as would a thriving business. Instead, a thriving charity’s life’s blood is the heart and caring of its volunteers and the folks that will do a favour, provide a helping hand, or sometimes have taken the time to pass a remark or recommend a friend. That costs nothing, and doesn’t take a lot of time.
The most important thing here is that as beings inhabiting the same world, we are still engaged, and we all take the time to care for each other. Think of this as your opportunity to take a moment to consider the smallest act of charity – which could result in immeasurable blessings.
