In October 2010, Fields of Life invited a group of men to go to Uganda to witness first hand the challenges and poverty the people of East Arica face on a daily basis. The team, led by Angus Wilson (Wilsons Country) consisted of 8 men, all from Northern Ireland. They were: David Johnston; local farmers James Martin and Robert Anderson; Neville Woods from Supervalu; Niall Irwin from Irwin’s Bakery; Raymond Donnelly and Malcolm Kerr from Donnelly Group; and Richard Moore from Linden Foods.
Since the team returned home, they were each touched with the need of the East African people and resolved to do something about it. As a result of what they witnessed the team have committed to The Water for Life Challenge!
Fresh and pure drinking water, easily accessible to local villages. A child dies every 15 SECONDS due to water related diseases.
To bring safe, clean drinking water to villages in East Africa and help Fields of Life achieve their goal of bringing clean, fresh water to 1 million people
The Water for Life Challenge is to raise a minimum of £200,000 over the next 2 years (by end of 2012) for Fields of Life to purchase a second, larger drililing rig and to fund the first 25 wells dug with the new rig.
In 2011, 1.1 billion people still live without access to clean, safe water. Clean drinking water will not only reduce the level of disease and decrease infant mortality, but it will also give back valuable hours that are spent collecting water and allow many children to go to school for the first time.
