The Apuuton/Okinyang well is located in Usuk sub county, located in Katakwi district in North Eastern Uganda, where people are still forced to rely on consumption of contaminated water and a number of lives have been lost due to the consumption of dirt water.
The well is located at a child care centre in the Kamembe community called Afaayo Child Care Centre.
Prior to the drilling of the borehole the children had to walk 1.5km to collect water from an open well which was also contaminated with many waterborne diseases such bilharzia, cholera and typhoid which resulted in many within the community falling sick and in some cases dying. This borehole will benefit 90 households each with an average of 9 members per household therefore bringing fresh water to nearly 900 people.
Thank you to the generous donor who has provided this life saving gift!
