A message from Richard Spratt, CEO

Friends,

Ten years ago, I made one of the easiest and best decisions in my life in accepting the role of Irish Operations Manager with Fields of Life, joining in November 2009. I was truly humbled to then be offered the position of CEO in April 2011 where I have served since. Over the course of the last decade I have met, worked with and served some of the most wonderful people. I could never have imagined the many places I have visited, the adventures, the highs (and a few lows!) along the way. God has revealed himself to me and the organisation in the most powerful ways at times and I am truly thankful for being given this opportunity.

For me, one of the marks of leadership is an awareness of when it is time to move on. I have felt led that at this stage in my career and life that now is the time to move onto a new challenge. Whilst I am resolved and peaceful with this decision it is very much bittersweet to say goodbye to friends and colleagues in a formal way. I will though be remaining very involved as a Fields of Life volunteer, donor and supporter into the future. This incredible organisation and its mission is forever etched onto my heart and is in my blood. That won’t change..

There is much more to say at a later date before I leave, but at this stage I wanted to give my sincere thanks to everyone in the FOL family – our Trustees, our amazing staff team, our partners, our beneficiaries and to all the incredible volunteers, donors and supporters who have so kindly and generously enabled us to do what we do. I could not have undertaken this role without the unwavering and sacrificial support of my wife Katie and our children.

I have accepted the another role, a position I will be taking up in May/June 2020. My immediate priority however is to end well with FOL and assist the Board in leadership transition so I will be around for a little while yet.

This is an exciting juncture for FOL as it looks forward with lots of hope and possibility to the next 10 years under new leadership both here and in East Africa.

Your friend in Christ,

Richard
