In October we welcomed Alex Gason to the team as our Regional Development Officer in the Republic of Ireland. Here’s what you need to know about Alex:
Tell us a bit about yourself?
I am 37, originally from Dublin but living in Cork for the last 7 years. My better half Linda and I have been married for 11 years. We have 2 beautiful kids, Liana and Joshua.
I have been involved in a range of areas and vocations throughout life, Youth Work, Promotions, Entertainment, Telecommunications, Sales and the Insurance industry.
Most recently, I have been involved in setting up Street Pastors Cork. This has been a huge blessing in our City over the past 3 years.
Tell us something fun about yourself?
I once got lost in Machu Picchu. I climbed the wrong mountain in deep fog! It was worth it in the end as the view was incredible but I would never have climbed that high if I had known what I was in for. When I told the story to some of my colleagues in my old job one of them, who is known for her gaffes, said Matthew Picchu do we know Him?
What interested you about the post with Fields of Life?
Someone sent me the job spec with the subject title “I saw this and thought of you?” When I opened it up it was like the role had been written for me, I just had to apply.
What are you most excited about with this new venture?
Meeting people and building real relationships with people here in Ireland and seeing these grow into real opportunities to change lives and communities in Africa, I was born for this.
What’s been the most exciting thing since you started?
Meeting the team and feeling energised by the whole experience so far. I came away from my induction with a real fire in my belly and raring to go. I just need to be strategic and disciplined in my approach now as there are so many good things to throw yourself into. My time in the insurance industry will serve me well in this regard as I now know how to prioritise the urgent and the important.
What 3 words would you use to describe yourself?
Passionate, driven and enthusiastic.
