Tell us a bit about yourself:
My name is Jennifer Ayugi, I am a 36 years old, I was a single mother for a long time but God has been so good! On the 29th of January, I got married to a young loving man called Mike.
My daughter, Comfort Vanessa, is a nice, responsible young girl. She is and now in Form three at Bethel Royal High School. I love her, she is good. Both are keeping well, they love each other.
I am a Christian from St. Augustine Church of Uganda. I work for Fields of Life as a Regional Sponsorship Officer, Northern Region.
Tell us a fact about yourself:
As a young African child, I grew up with my mum and dad. Mummy was a hard working nurse and mother, while dad was a teacher, but a serious drunkard.
My mum encouraged us to work hard, be humble and always love God.
I walked to school but I had no shoes. In primary six I became a prefect and l was bought plastic shoes nicknamed ‘JERRICAN’, they got very hot in the day.
I loved playing seven stones game, skipping, netball, singing and athletics. Yes, I could run 100m, 200m and relays. I was really good and I attained some certificates.
I loved to eat chicken and rice but we could only enjoy these on festive seasons.
When did you first get involved with Fields of Life and why?
It was January 2005, at Truth Primary School in Lira. This was a turning point in my life; teaching children from internally displaced camps and most children would work at the Ngetta Hill Stone Quarry.
They did not attend school regularly until they were enrolled for Fields of Life sponsorship. Teaching them was not easy but slowly they were encouraged to have hope and through education they could become Doctors, Teachers, and others would want to become ‘MUZUNGUS’; that gave me the zeal to want to educate them more. I really love working with a Christian organisations, I am happy to be here with Fields of Life.
What is your favourite thing about your job?
Helping children realise the importance of Sponsorship, and having hope for a brighter future.
Encouraging young people that hard work pays off, and that they should always trust God for the best, is what gives me zeal to work.
What has been the most exciting thing since you started?
Meeting children who had lost hope and encouraging that now their HOPE LIVES!
Guiding the sponsored children to write authentic letters to their sponsors and encouraging teachers to love their jobs and work hard with enthusiasm.
What 3 words would you use to describe yourself?
Social, hardworking and responsible.
