Meet Rachel Kadondi

Rachel Kadondi is the Fields of Life Hospitality Co-Ordinator and has worked with us since 2001. Many of you, who have been on teams, have probably met Rachel before, but we thought we’d ask her a few questions and let you get to know her a little bit better.

Tell us a bit about yourself:

My Name is Rachel Kadondi, I am the hospitality Co-ordinator at Fields of Life with a background in Hospitality Business Management. I am a Christian and sing with a gospel team at my church, I also provide family foster care to 4 girls currently in higher institutions of learning and 2 of whom have completed school and are now working. I am also a very strong advocate for I AM GIRL.

Tell us a fact about yourself:

There are many!

Growing up, I lived mostly with my Grandma and I had to attend village school. I walked 4km bare foot and drank unclean water.

At school, I was small and soft spoken in every class I attended, I was not noisy but I was one who did not give up easily, no matter the circumstances.

I loved athletics, debate, music, drama, netball, reading, writing stories, fashion and design; but hospitality followed me everywhere, and I would serve at both home events and at school.

I can speak four languages – my mother Language, Luganda, Swahili and English because I had to communicate to all my friends ranging from Indians to Arabs, Lugbara, Acholi, Baganda and many more whom I had met in school.

When did you first get involved with Fields of Life and Why?

I started working with Fields of Life on 22nd December 2001 because I had a longing to work in a place with good working ethos and with people who had concern for others! There was a need for a person to manage the Shalom Guest house and extend the hospitality services beyond Fields of Life circles. I met Reverend Trevor Stevenson for the first time and I had never met a person of higher hierarchy with a personality like his; kind yet assertive, caring yet result oriented and he had respect for people even the lowest in the chain of command! I decided to work on because I really loved working with a Christian Organization.

What is your favourite thing about your job?

Planning and organising to receive visitors and attending to their needs. Meeting people and making them comfortable, receiving positive feedback plus working as a team.

What has been the most exciting thing since you started?

Joining Fields of Life at an early stage and watching the Organization grow. At recruitment, I first hesitated to join because there was not much in sight, ranging from work tasks, through number of staff. It has been exciting witnessing and being part of the growth and expansion of Fields of Life, moving up the ladders to heading the hospitality department and being a member of the Senior Management team; I have learnt to walk not only by sight but by vision and never to despise humble beginnings!

What 3 words would you use to describe yourself?

Soft-Spoken, Persistent and Caring.
