Tell us a bit about yourself:

My name is Wilbert Ikilai, I am an Educationist by profession, with a Degree in Education (Makerere University), Diploma in Secondary Education (Kyambogo University) and Masters in Education Planning and Administration (Uganda Christian University Mukono).

I have also trained and acquired skills in Child Protection, Guidance and Counselling, Sexual and Reproductive health for young people and Monitoring and Evaluation.

I am a married man with one wife and three children, two girls and one boy.

Tell us a fun fact:

I did “Susu” on my bed until I completed my primary education, and this is exactly what my son is also doing now!

When did you first get involved with Fields of Life and Why?

I used to use the Fields of Life Guesthouses in 2013 and 2014, and that is how I got to know about Fields of Life. However, I joined Fields of Life in August 2015 as Education Coordinator. I have a passion for working with children and my personal experience from growing up during war, in northern and eastern Uganda, and suffering a lot as a child really made me want to get in involved in  child welfare in the world.

What is your favourite thing about your job?

Challenging issues sometimes arise when I am out in the field, regarding child protection, and I am able to speak with people and at the end of discussion we see light about protecting children, and that includes teachers in schools.

What’s been the most exciting thing since you started?

The working environment at Fields of Life is supportive, we are operating like brothers and sisters, we support each other, pray for each other and work as a team.

What 3 words would you use to describe yourself?

I am hardworking, social and interested in Learning.
