Four nursery school children go down the slide, unbothered by the temperature and harsh rays emitted by the African sun. Behind them, eight children break into song as they swing.
“Jesus, Jesus my saviour, I love Jesus, of course I do, do, do!”
Four-year-old Goodness, together with his classmates enjoys his break time at this Fields of Life partner school, exclaiming; “I like this swing because it is for baby class. I love when the swing is being pushed as I sit with my friends Rica and Israel.”
Janet, Goodness’s nursery school teacher, says that the play equipment has made learning more interesting for the children.
This school, located in Central Uganda, has been a Fields of Life partner school since 2006 and currently has thirty-four children in nursery class. Fields of Life, through the Gifts of Life programme, provided play equipment to aid early childhood development and learning. The playground equipment included a climbing frame, a slide, two roundabouts, a pair of swings, monkey bars and a see-saw.
According to Janet, children learn best when they are physically active. The playground has helped the children interact better and improve their vocabulary.
The school director, Mr Walugembe, further shares how the equipment stimulates student thinking and class community, bringing much more joy to campus. Mr Walugembe is very grateful because the equipment has increased nursery enrollment.
“Before the playground equipment, parents were taking their children to other schools in the area that had play equipment. But now parents bring their children here,” he recalls.
Fields of Life, through the Gifts of Life Programme, is keen to continue supporting its partner schools through Early Childhood Development requirements such as structures and materials that help children grow and thrive.
Thank you for your continued support towards the Gifts of Life programme which continues to change lives, transform communities and build hope in East Africa.
